Product Review - Skillet's Fennel & Black Pepper Bacon Spread

I was recently given the opportunity to try out Skillet's Fennel & Black Pepper Bacon Spread. It's a spread they make using Niman Ranch bacon, onions, balsamic, and other spices and it is USDA approved.

I must admit I was not very impressed with the way it looked. I don't mean the packaging. I adored the cute jar it was in but the product itself was really oily and unappealing. The smell was amazing though! It smelled like hot sausages and in fact made my mouth begin watering.

I decided to try it on several different items to see how I liked it so I only made tiny slider sandwiches and pieces of steamed veggies for the taste test. I made a cheesebuger, chicken finger, and BBQ sliders and used steamed broccoli, cabbage halves, and celery. It has a very bold taste and quickly overpowered the taste of my burger and chicken sandwich but was a nice touch on the BBQ slider and again as a dip it gave a nice new flavor to my cabbage but I really didn't like it on the celery or broccoli.

In conclusion I really just didn't like this particular flavor but they have several others that may not be as bold tasting so I would totally not be against trying another flavor.

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
