I tumble onto grass. A weight slams into my back, smashing the air from my chest.
And then the world explodes.
Frantically, I cover my head. Debris scatters over me and I cringe under the assault. I can’t hear. My ears ring from the blast of whatever the hell was just destroyed.
The bombardment ends almost as quickly as it began. The weight on me disappears. My lungs labor hard to draw in air while sound comes to me thick and muffled like my head is wrapped in cotton. It seems as if someone is shouting. I can’t make sense of the words.
Choking with my effort to breathe, I roll over, searching for Amar.
And I find him. He’s surrounded. Six guys with knives circle him. We’re in the middle of a park not far from my apartment and up ahead, a tree looks like it’s been hit with a grenade. Orange flames climb from the shattered trunk. Smoke blurs the streetlights casting cold light on the grass.
I rush to my feet, woodchips falling from my clothes and skin. “Amar!”
Two of the guys feint toward him. They slash at him with their knives like they want to tear him apart. I can’t see any magic on Amar yet, no blue glow or faint crackle of electricity, but when he twitches back, the ones who are now nearest to him pull away, as if even with their knives, they’re scared of getting too close.
Cait, run!”
I don’t move. I’m not leaving him here. “Get the hell away from him!”
No one listens. The ones around Amar don’t even blink.
But two of them break off from the group and charge toward me.
I backpedal on the slick grass. A strange sensation pulses through me, like all the air around me rushes toward my body and then bursts away.
I remember the feeling. It’s what happened in the alley outside Goa Cafe.
The men stagger. One of them falls.
And the second lunges at me. His hands grab my arms. His weight tears me down. I tumble to the ground and he comes with me.
My fingers claw at the grass while I struggle to drag myself away. He reaches out quickly, snagging my shirt. His other hand grabs my shoulder and hauls me back to the dirt and grass.
“Stay still, bitch.” He places his knife to my neck. “You’re no good to the Guardians in pieces.”

Moonlight Promo - Victoria Danann

Synopsis:

The fourth installment in The Order of the Black Swan serial saga. The story of B Team continues while the romance centers on Stalkson Grey, head of the Elk Mountain Reservation Tribe of werewolves. He embarks on an adventure he would never have dreamed possible, willing to take any risk to save his pack from extinction. Along the way he learns that true love can find you in the strangest places, even when you're far, far from home.

Book Excerpt :

CHAPTER 1

"What do you know about my sister and that prancin' prick of a fairy prince?"
Elora blinked, but in the space of that flutter he learned all he needed to know. He
had found out the first night Storm brought her to poker, back at Jefferson Unit, that her very
expressive face telegraphed even the tiniest nuance or feeling or thought. By now he knew her so
well that she was as transparent as air. She was caught off guard because she hadn't expected that
question while Ram was cooking a leisurely Sunday breakfast.
"Say that three times fast?"
"No' goin' to work this time. Stay on topic."
"You just don't like him because he can stand toe to toe with you and not be cowed by the
H.O.H. elfster."
"ELFSTER!? What in Paddy's Name, Elora? And what is H.O.H.?"
"Hall of Heroes."
Ram turned away from frying bacon and gave her a look. It probably didn't have the
effect he intended. He was wearing jeans, a long sleeve black tee that stretched across his chest
enticingly, and a black Jack Daniels apron tied around his waist. She thought perhaps nothing
was sexier than watching Ram's muscles ripple while cooking her breakfast.
"Do no' try to deflect. 'Tis I. And Paddy knows I can tell when you're hidin' somethin'."
Ram looked determined.
"Speaking of hiding. You're going to have to do something about all these guys
overrunning our property. Our home - the one that was intended to be our very own, very private
property. Please, Ram. Make them go away."
His expression softened a little as he decided to allow himself to be temporarily derailed.
"Sol, Simon, and every one of your friends agree that we can no' leave you and Helm
vulnerable after the threat those alien buggers left hangin' in the air. That goes especially for your
friend, Sir Storm."
"My friend, Sir Storm?"
"Aye. Your friend. The bloody wanker suggested that I'm no' responsible enough to be
entrusted with lookin' out for you. Said, 'You're no' takin' good care of my namesake's mother.
I'll be forced to give the job to someone else if you do no' shape up and begin takin' it seriously'."
Elora laughed. "He said that?"
"Aye. As if 'twas all my doin' that you ended up givin' birth alone in a freezin' wolf cave.
With. No. Phone."
"Well..."
Ram narrowed his eyes at her. "Think very carefully about what you are about to say
before you say it."
Elora smiled brightly. "I was going to say that no one in his right mind could fault you."
Ram nodded and resumed turning the bacon. "Exactly. I should have reminded him what
happened when he was in charge of the Baka interview at Unit Drac. He pouted for hours after
learnin' first hand that the Lady Laiken does as she fuck-well pleases."
Elora concurred by nodding vigorously. "It's a burden, but you bear it well, my love."
"All kiddin' aside. I do. I really do." He began setting strips of cooked bacon out to drain
the grease.
"Well, Sir Storm is going to be plenty busy with his own burdens."
"What's your meanin?"
"They're expecting."
"Expectin' a baby?"
"No. They're expecting Publishers Clearing House to pay for their villa renovation."
Ram gave her a look. "You know, I'm thinkin' there's only enough of this lovely bacon
for one and, since I cooked, I really should be keepin' it for myself."
"Yes! They're expecting a baby. Litha thinks it's a girl."
"A girl!" Ram practically whooped. "Paddy's Great Balls Afire. I can no' wait to see
Storm try to be da to a girl." He laughed enjoying that idea and then grew serious. "As for the
buggers who violated my grandda's forest, I'll no' be givin' 'em a second chance at my family."
"Rammel. I hear you and I understand you."
"I do no' suppose the next sentence will be 'and I obey you'."
Elora smirked while she snagged a piece of bacon. "Have I ever mentioned you make
great bacon?" She nuzzled his ear on the way back to her stool. "Almost as good as chocolate."
Ram pointed a spatula at her. "I swear to Paddy you have that thin'... that ADDD."
"ADHD?"
"Aye."
Elora started laughing. "Pot."
When his brows drew together she smiled because Helm looked at her with that same
expression several times a day. They made him accidentally in a snow covered cottage, but he
was made with love and now he was a little bit her and a little bit him. A miracle indeed.
"You can no' concentrate 'cause you've been smokin' dope?"
"No! 'Pot' as in 'you're the pot calling the kettle black'."
Ram stared at her for a few beats, finally shook his head and said, "No idea."
"You don't have an expression here about the pot calling the kettle black?"
"We do no' that I know of, but I think I begin to follow your point. You're tryin' to say
that I should no' be accusin' you of short attention because mine is even shorter?"
Of their own accord, his eyes drifted down to the cleavage showing between the henley
buttons she'd left undone.
She chuckled. "See?"
"See what?"
She did a little shimmy and he grinned sheepishly. "Guilty." He put an orange juice in
front of her. "And be careful of the sexy dancin'. You'll be gettin' Helm's milk all over your
clothes again."
Elora rolled her eyes. "He gets enough. Have you seen how chubby his little face is
getting?"
"Well, blood will tell."
Elora narrowed her eyes to slits. "Rammel. Paddy help you if you're saying what I think
you're saying."
"All I'm sayin' is that chubby cheeks do no' run on my side of the family." When she took
a mock threatening step toward him, he laughed. "Just teasin' darlin' girl. Just teasin'. You know I
would no' change a hair on your head. Or his."
"Okay. All I'm sayin' is that insanity doesn't run on my side of the family." A look of
horror slowly covered her face as she realized what she'd just said. She hadn't yet personally
confronted what the assassin in the woods had said about the Laiwynn clan, but if it was true, it
meant that cruelty and despotic behavior might run in her family.
Ram put his utensils down, wiped his hand on his apron, and offered himself for a hug.
She stepped into the comfort of his arms.
"What I was trying to tell you earlier is that I've never made any secret of the fact that I
won't give up my freedom to live a restricted life, no matter how luxurious or comfortable. Not
for anything."
"No' even for Helm? And me?"
"That's not fighting fair and you know it."
"When it comes to your safety - and our son's - you think I care about fightin' fair? 'Tis
the very last of my concerns."
"Let me put it this way. You need to come up with a more agreeable Plan B and you need
to do it while I'm still in a listening mood."
"Any ideas?"
She looked down at her pretty Holland china plate, part of the set they got as a wedding
present from Kay and Katrina. She had a picture of how good life was going to be there in their
new home. Had the Ralengclan assassins spoiled her vision of the future to the point of ruin?
Was it time to confront that possibility?
"No." When she looked back up, Ram thought he might have seen her look just a little
worn. Like her aura hadn't been buffed in a while. Sometimes he caught her looking off into
space and he suspected that she was thinking about what she'd been told by the Ralengclan
assassin, wondering if the massacre of her family was really a coup d'etat." Armed people
guarding the house. Hardly what I pictured."
"I know." Ram sat down next to her and took her hand in his. "We'll figure it out. Monq's
workin' on it." He pulled up like he had an idea. The change was so subtle that no one besides
Elora would have even noticed it.
"What?"
"He's workin' on detectin' interdimensional activity - identifyin' the source and location.
He says 'tis a logical first step toward the defense system we're goin' to be needin'."
"Yeah. I heard."
"Well..." She knew she was in trouble when he turned on that look that he had given her
the first night they had met, the puppy dog plea that was so irresistible she could be manipulated
out of her socks with full knowledge and complicity. She hated that. It was... manipulation by
consent.
"Stop that right now!"
"'Twas just thinkin' that, for the time bein', just while we're sortin' this out, maybe we
should move back into Jefferson Unit. You and Helm would be safe there. I know 'tis no' ideal,
but there is the courtpark, food, and babysittin' on demand. 'Tis no' this." He looked around
the room and gave a little sigh. He had put a lot of himself into renovating the property and
somewhere along the way had come to understand why she loved it and pictured their little
family living happily ever after there. "But we were happy at Jefferson too. We could even help
Monq. Maybe speedin' thin's along a bit?"
"I'm expecting puppies."
"I truly hope no one is recordin' this conversation." Ram's mouth softened at the corners
making him look so beautifully kissable that she had to lean in and remind herself if those kisses
were as good as she remembered. He didn't seem to mind complying with her wish. When she
pulled back, he said, "We could get Glen to keep an eye on that. The wolf pups I mean."
"This is not just some ruse that's going to get us sucked back into active duty?"
Ram cocked his head like he was having trouble with that question. "Why would I go to
so much trouble to keep you safe only so I could risk gettin' you killed?"
Elora stared at Ram for a few seconds. "I'm not the only knight in the room and we both
know how persuasive Sol can be when he wants something. Before I even consider this proposal,
I need some reassurance that none of us, not you, not me, not the baby - none of us - are going to
end up on any field assignment. Not in any capacity."
Ram nodded. "Deal."
"Okay."
"Okay you approve of my answer or okay we're packin' for Fort Dixon?"
"Fort Dixon, but that's all of us. Blackie too. And we need an apartment big enough for
the four of us."
"Thank Paddy. I'm goin' to get a good night's sleep for a change."
She hadn't realized just how much stress the fear of assassination had caused Ram
until she saw his facial muscles relax. Yeah. It was a good plan. A good choice, everything
considered.
"And, let's outline what would have to happen to make it possible for us to come back
here and proceed to live life the way it should be lived. By ourselves. Speaking of which, I'm
also not giving up the pleasure of a weekend at the cottage - just us - forever."
"Certainly. I'm no' unreasonable."
She smiled at him lovingly and indulgently. "Of course not. You're my hero."

You’ll find yourself once again cheering for the residents of River Valley, especially the big- hearted and compassionate Annie Bell.

Escape with a blend of love, laughter, friendship, suspense and gourmet food while remembering it’s never too late for second chances.

EXCERPT

Two days later, the first Monday she was to start work for Drake Webber, Annie dreamt of a man chasing her down the streets of Los Angeles as she carried baby Alder in her arms. Was it Marco? She couldn’t be sure. At a bump in the sidewalk, she tripped and fell. Blood spilled onto the cement. Then, there was a phone ringing, an old-fashioned ring tone like phones from her childhood.

With a start, she awakened, sitting up in bed, the blankets tangled around her legs and her pajamas soaking wet from perspiration. The ringing continued; it was her cell phone. She’d recently changed the ringtone to that of the old rotary phones. Rubbing sleep from her eyes, she reached for the phone on the bedside table. What time was it? Not yet six a.m. Who would be calling this early? It was probably her mother with news of another boyfriend who left her penniless and unable to pay rent. This happened every year or so and Annie always sent money. And her mother always found one more loser to move in with a short time later.

“Hello,” she said, fully prepared to be annoyed that her mother had awakened her so early.

“Tag. I found you.”

Her stomach, like it might during a sudden five-story drop in an elevator, sank below her knees. Marco. His voice was rough, hard—she would recognize it anywhere.

Was she still asleep? Please, God, let this still be my nightmare, she prayed silently.

She trembled, the sweat-soaked pajamas cold on her skin. Her hand twitched, as if in a move to hang up the phone, but he spoke again. “What? Cat got your tongue?” She continued her silence, frozen. “Listen, bitch, I know it’s you. You’re all over the Internet these days.

All you have to do is put your whore name into Google and there’s a dozen articles on you. You’re looking good, especially compared to what a cow you used to be. I’m coming to town. Shouldn’t be hard to find you. And then you’ll pay for what you did to me.”

She dropped the phone like it was hot and stared at it. Then she picked it up and punched the hang-up button before tossing it back on the bed. She folded her knees, wrapping her arms around them and rocking back and forth for several minutes. Oh no, no, no, no, a roar in her head.

Blitz and Review - Anomaly by JC Emery

Book Description:

How far would you go to save your sister?

Life as a college senior is stressful enough. Between mid-terms, stupid boys, and a rare blood condition, Eliza Landry is just trying to figure out what normal is—whatever that means—when she discovers that vampires aren’t just a thing of legend.

In a matter of moments, her life changes forever when she and her older sister Kate suffer a vampire attack which leaves Eliza with two puncture wounds on her neck and an allergy to sunlight. But she’s still human, or at least she thinks she is. It doesn’t really matter—her main concern is that her sister is missing.

Sorrow turns to obsession, leading Eliza to piece together the puzzle of that terrifying night. Even stumbling upon a millennia-old vampire assassin named Luke Conrad who either wants to kiss her or kill her (she can't decide) cannot deter
her.

When bodies start piling up and one of them is supposedly Kate, Eliza and Luke set out to discover who is behind the attacks. Soon, Eliza is drawn into the dark and dangerous world of the undead, with no guarantee she’ll make it out alive, and no doubt that she won’t like what she finds.

Review: Okay I don't even know where to begin! First off let me say is that not a BEAUTIFUL cover! I love it! Emery has done an excellant job here with Anomaly! I went into this story under the misconception that here lies another vampire story, and well... in essence it was but JC takes it a bit farther and kind of mixes up alot of what we have preconceived as vampires up to this point and this is what made it stand out for me! Which brings me to one of my favorite quotes from the story.

"“I didn’t invite you in!” “Don’t believe everything you hear, Nancy Drew,” he said."

This one quote just rocked me to the core because it is one major piece of vampire lore that I have held onto all these years is that a vampire can't come in uninvited. I loved it! I laughed til I cried especially when Luke calls Eliza Nancy Drew because she thinks she knows everything about vampires.

I look very forward to the next part of the story!

Excerpt: Luke calls Liz fat

“I take it you’re not a runner,” he said. “Despite all evidence to the contrary.” He eyed my wardrobe. It was obvious how disproportionately balanced our strengths were. I had wished that I could have at least claimed intellectual superiority—knowledge of literature or physics— something that gave me an edge. But I had nothing. I wasn’t sure I could even school Luke in the art of the curtsey considering he was so damn old.

I hated to be the sick girl—always the sick girl—looked on with pity. I was always poor Eliza who had to have another surgery; poor Eliza who had to spend a month in bed; poor Eliza who needed another transplant. For years and years I had just wanted one relationship in my life where I could be on equal footing with someone and not be sick. Of course Luke and I hadn’t been on equal footing—he vampire and me human, but here I was about to really tip the scales in his favor.

“Um, no,” I said. Luke was stealing glances in my direction. “I’ve never been a fan,” I said and left it at that. I just wasn’t ready to talk to him about my illness yet. Once people knew, the way they saw and treated me always changed. I couldn’t even have a single beer without receiving disapproving looks.

“I wasn’t a runner in my former life, either,” he said. “But then, before I became vampire, in that time, exercise wasn’t a part of a person’s life the way it is now. Exercise used to just be something that people did. It wasn’t something they set aside time for. A woman your shape would have been much desired in my time.”

I turned and glared at him. He must have been joking. A thousand years old and yet he hadn’t figured out that commenting on a woman’s size—whether positive or negative—was never a good thing?

Damned fool.

“What I had intended to say,” he said with great care in his voice, “Was that a healthy sized woman was the great ideal for every man. A thin woman was often sickly and unable to bear her husband’s children.” I waved him off and kept walking.

“You’re digging yourself a deeper hole. Just give it up,” I said with more bite in my tone than I had intended.

“What is the appropriate response for a man to give to a woman whose size he has just insulted?” he asked. The look on his face was completely serious. I took several deep breaths and tried to relax myself a little bit. I probably should have told him I was sick because holy crap this was just getting worse and worse. Low self-esteem for one hundred, Alex.

“There is nothing any man can say to make it better once he’s opened his mouth to begin with,” I said with a shake of my head. Having Kate as my older sister had only made me more critical of my body image. Kate had always been thin and fairly athletic. She was energetic and the worst thing she had endured medically was when she had donated a kidney and bone marrow to me when I was a teenager. Even then, after weeks of lying around the house in recovery, she didn’t gain an ounce. I, however, had to go up a pants size. It was hardly fair that not only had I been sick, but I had been blessed with more than my fair share of curves as well.

“That seems a bit unfair,” he said and stuck his hands in his pockets. His shoulders dropped and he seemed to withdraw into himself.

“Welcome to the twenty-first century,” I said and decided to keep my mouth closed for the rest of the trip.

About the Author:

These days she rocks her flip flops year round in Northern California and can't imagine a climate more beautiful. With the support and encouragement of her parents and sister, JC set out to figure out what she wanted to do when she grew up. Most days, the jury is still out; however the thing that stuck with her no matter what she pursued was her love of the written word. JC writes adult, new adult, and young adult fiction. She dabbles in many different genres including science fiction, horror, chick lit, and murder mysteries, yet she is most enthralled by supernatural stories-- and everything has at least a splash of romance.

Welcome to Paradise Promo Blitz

Welcome to Paradise
By Rosalind James

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: 4/12/13

Synopsis:

By the bestselling author of the Escape to New Zealand series.

They’re going to party like it’s 1885.

Mira Walker is hoping that competing
on a “living history” reality show will give her what’s missing from her real life. Maybe she’ll get closer to her boyfriend, who hasn’t been all that nice to her lately. Get fired up about her job again. Who knows, she might even win a million dollars.

Gabe Kincaid and his brother Alec are after that million too, though. Mira and Scott are no threat at all, not when everybody involved is going to want to kill Scott after the first day. And there’s no bond stronger than a twin’s. What could possibly go wrong?

EXCERPT

Gabe began to haul out suitcases, then stopped in his tracks.
A couple spaces beyond, a young woman stood next to a glossy black BMW with its door open, her gaze turned up to the eastern skyline. Gabe could see why. The view was tinted with a rose pink that lay softly over the mountains,
giving them an almost ethereal glow.

She sensed his presence behind him, turned with a warm smile that was a perfect complement to the light bathing the landscape behind her. “Alpenglow,” she told him happily.

“What?” he asked stupidly.

“That’s what they call that pink thing. Alpenglow. Isn’t it beautiful?”

“Yeah,” he smiled slowly. “It sure is.”

She nodded, looked back at the mountains with a sigh, leaving Gabe free to take in the view that
interested him most. She wasn’t especially slim—in fact, she was downright . . .rounded. Arms, breasts, hips, it was all there, all the good stuff. A nicely defined waist, too, in a slightly crumpled short-sleeved summer dress that flared out at the hem. Long, shiny brown hair caught on the side of her head in a simple braid that reached nearly to her hips, ended in a curly tail. All right, she was attractive. A pretty face, nice hair, a beautiful smile, but she certainly wasn’t gorgeous. So why was he staring at her?

“Cute,” Alec said quietly beside him.

“Yeah.” Gabe gave himself a shake and began to turn away.

“Hey.” The man was striding quickly across the parking lot. Light brown hair, parted neatly. Slim and tall, somewhere between Gabe’s six foot and Alec’s six-two. And, Gabe realized, the same asshole who’d flipped them off earlier,
at the light. Frowning, now, as he came to join the woman. “What are you doing? I’ve been waiting for you.”

“Sorry,” she said. “I was just looking at the view.”

“Did you get the car cleaned out?”

“Not yet.”

He sighed impatiently. “I’ve got all our stuff inside already, and unpacked, while you’ve been standing here. Could you get a move on, please? I want to go to dinner.”

“Sorry,” she said again. “It’s just so beautiful.”

The man smiled tightly, still not acknowledging Gabe or Alec, who had come up to stand beside
his brother and watch the pair. “All I’m asking for is a bit of focus here, sweetie. Eyes on the prize, remember? Can you do that for me?”

“Of course,” she said. Gabe could see the flush spreading up her cheeks, her embarrassment at the reproof in front of strangers. Not his business, he reminded himself.

None of his business at all.

EXCERPT:

She backed herself into a corner, keeping her eyes straight ahead, and her chin high. Ale leaned against the opposite wall and hooked his thumbs on his belt loops. The longer he stared at her side profile, the more she fidgeted — checking her watch, gripping her bag, glancing up at the ceiling. If she were going to give him a hard time, he’d at least have a little fun. “How do you plan to leave? If I recall, we drove here in my car. Yours is back at your sister’s.” He smiled triumphantly.

She favored him with half a glance before setting her gaze on the control panel. “I’ll call a cab.”

“No one is going to give you the number to a cabbie, on my orders.”

She gave him a chagrined smile. “There’s an app for that on my iPhone.”

His eyes fell to her bag and he lifted his brows. “I’ll wrestle it away from you.”

“Ha! After our last fight? You wouldn’t dare.”

“Wouldn’t I?” Being reminded of his literally crushing defeat at the hands of a woman would’ve normally irked him, but he remained unbothered. In fact, the thought of another round with the pretty spitfire intrigued him. She gave him a
slitted stare, and he responded with a wide grin.

“You have some nerve.”

“Actually, you don’t know the half of it.” The memory of their kiss exploded in his brain, his blood pounding in his ears and racing throughout his body, warming muscles stiff after a long day’s work. Her eyes widened a bit, and he wondered whether her thoughts mirrored his own. Maybe they do…
