Book Tour/Giveaway - It Came From the Science Lab!!! by T. Melissa Madian

It Came From the Science Lab!!! by T. Melissa Madian

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Juvenile Fiction / Science Fiction
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

 BLURB: It was business as usual at the Acme Science Lab, until one day a massive explosion sent the scientists fleeing for safety. But out of the smoke and chemicals emerged an amazing new creature... Bartholomew Blob! With the lab destroyed, Bartholomew leaves the comforts of the only home he has ever known in search of new friends and a place to live. As he travels through golden fields his body changes color with every emotion he feels. Life can be lonely for a blob, but Bartholomew discovers there's kindness and love to be found in every adventure.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Excerpt: Smoke and chemicals mixed, and strange sounds came from the now empty lab. Sounds like… gurgling and burping? The door of the lab smashed open and out came… … a small, roundish shape! It was midnight black and had the size and form of an upside-down cereal bowl. It slithered instead of rolled. It looked like melted dark chocolate but had a perfume like smell. Suddenly, two roundish holes opened and turned pale blue. It had eyes! It could see! What in the world could this creature be? Why… it’s Bartholomew Blob!
From The Author:
Topic: Top 5 books I loved as a kid
I have been reading since I was about 3 years old; my parents said I would read anything I could get my little hands on! Reading was a wonderful way to escape into my imagination while building my vocabulary. I still have some of my favourite children’s books on my bookshelf, if only for nostalgic purposes. My top 5 books that I loved as a kid, in no particular order, are:
1.    The Encyclopedia Brown series. I would ask my school’s librarian every week for any new books in this series. I love a good mystery and solving problems, and Encyclopedia Brown was a kid detective that, instead of selling lemonade, would sell his detective services to solve mysteries in the neighbourhood. At the end of each case, the reader is given the opportunity to solve the mystery, before checking the solution explanation in the back of the book.
2.    Choose Your Own Adventure series. These were so much fun to read, as you could go back and revisit possible scenarios throughout each book. Plus, it was one of the few book series where you could actually die, which was a great (and safe!) way to expose kids to consequences of actions.
3.    Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White. It’s a classic for a reason! This story was so masterfully told that I loved being immersed in the world of Wilber and Charlotte.
4.    Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. I read and reread this book so many times the binding disintegrated. Roald Dahl had such a subversive way of poking fun at the fallacies of humanity wrapped in a seemingly innocent storyline. I actually enjoyed pretty much all of Roald Dahl’s books, but Charlie was definitely my favourite.
5.    Dracula by Bram Stoker. Another classic! This is still, hands-down, my favourite horror novel. It’s suspenseful, terrifying, and engrossing. Read the full, non-abridged version – it’s worth every riveting word.
I hope you enjoyed my list! Feel free to mention any of your faves in the Comments section.
Book Tour/Giveaway - Viking Voyager by Sverrir Sigurdsson and Veronica Li
Viking Voyager: An Icelandic Memoir by Sverrir Sigurdsson with Veronica Li
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Memoir/Autobiography

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 BLURB: This vivacious personal story captures the heart and soul of modern Iceland. Born in Reykjavik on the eve of the Second World War, Sverrir Sigurdsson watched Allied troops invade his country and turn it into a bulwark against Hitler’s advance toward North America. The country’s post-war transformation from an obscure, dirt-poor nation to a prosperous one became every Icelander’s success. Spurred by this favorable wind, Sverrir answered the call of his Viking forefathers, setting off on a voyage that took him around the world.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt: I left Iceland to pursue university studies in Finland in August 1958. I was a nineteen-year-old embarking on my quest to see the world. In my youth I had deeply admired the adventures of the Vikings. Even after the Viking Age was over, young Icelanders often did a stint in Norway, serving a king or nobleman and performing heroic feats in battle. In the modern era, this tradition takes the form of studying overseas and competing in international business and professional arenas. Like my forefathers, I needed to travel to distant lands to prove myself, and then I would return home and use my skills to help make my country one of the greatest in the world. I was giddy with optimism in those days. Actually, it wasn’t just me. The whole nation was in a state of euphoria. Everything was going right for our newborn republic. With financial aid from the U.S. Marshall Plan, the country reconstructed the ageing fishing fleet that had been decimated by war and neglect. The World Bank, a United Nations affiliate that would employ me many years later, provided loans to Iceland to build the groundwork for an economic boom. Many more bonuses came our way during the Cold War, when the two superpowers contended for our loyalty. Iceland played hard to get, driving the rival suitors to shower her with gifts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
AUTHOR Bio and Links: Sverrir Sigurdsson grew up in Iceland and graduated as an architect from Finland in 1966. He pursued an international career that took him to the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, and the U.S. His assignments focused on school construction and improving education in developing countries. He has worked for private companies, as well as UNESCO and the World Bank. He is now retired and lives in Northern Virginia with his wife and coauthor, Veronica. Veronica Li emigrated to the U.S. from Hong Kong as a teenager. She received her Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and her master’s degree in International Affairs from Johns Hopkins University. Book Tour/Giveaway - Songs Of Autumn by Lauren Sevier
Songs Of Autumn by Lauren Sevier
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: YA Fantasy

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 BLURB: What if your entire life you knew the exact day you were going to die?
 Liz does.
Magick in the Kingdom of Aegis has almost run out. When that happens, the seasons will stop changing, the tides will cease to turn, and the sun will no longer be able to rise and set. The only way to save the lives of her people is if Liz agrees to be a blood sacrifice in a brutal ceremony that will take her life.
The problem is… Liz isn't ready to go.
With the help of a mischievous wanna-be soldier, Matioch Steele, Liz dares to take her fate into her own hands. Defying a blood-thirsty sorcerer, her desperate flight teaches her how to truly live while Mat finds out what's worth dying for. Each other.
Love, Death, Magick, and Mystery come together to weave one girl's epic tale of self-discovery.
Her song will echo within us all.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt: Liz’s guilt coated her like an inky film, soaking deep into her skin. She was keeping so many things from Mat. Seeing him there, surrounded by his friends with an easy open smile, she couldn't bear to speak of her secrets now. What if, somehow, her words hastened his impending demise? As if speaking them aloud would spur the gods to action. Like a bad omen, she followed after him with a prophecy of her own. She would not wish such a fate on an enemy, much less someone she had grown to trust.

Tia tugged her inside the lodge, a familiar conspiratorial smile on her lips. Liz's heart ached beneath its beauty, evoking memories that had sharp edges. Pain and relief mixed together, indistinguishable from each other.

 She missed her mother.

 Somehow, innately, Liz knew she was dead. Perhaps the same way she could see through the mists and sense the threads of fate. All Liz knew was that she woke up one morning and the world was grey, her heart heavier.

Gone.

Now she only remained alive within Liz's memory, within her pain.

From The Author: What’s In A Title? Written By: Lauren Sevier A book title is arguably just as, if not more, important than its cover. This opinion of mine has been more contentious than I expected among other indie author communities I’ve been lucky enough to find myself a part of over the last year or so. The title, being the identity of a book, sets the tone for everything. From the cover art, marketing plan, formatting design, to the expectations readers will have when they crack it open for the first time.

For my debut YA Fantasy novel, Songs Of Autumn, the title went through several phases before I finally discovered the book’s (and subsequently the series as a whole) identity. I think this is a normal process for author’s as the themes of a particular book don’t usually become apparent until well into the editing phase of development. At least, for me personally.

When I first started writing the first draft of Songs Of Autumn I had a vague inclination of the story. Mainly, just the inciting incident, the ending, and a few plot points in between. The rest of drafting was a process of discovery and pure creation. The working title at that time was The Gifted Princess. The only anchor I had to the story then was that I knew I wanted my main character, Liz, to be a Princess and that I wanted her to be incredibly intuitive as a character. I wanted her to be able to relate to other characters from different circumstances and to see them as equals. That was really important to me since Liz was coming from a position of privilege and power.

 It was glaringly obvious after the first draft was finished that the title wasn’t working however, as the world and the main conflict grew to overwhelm Liz’s story. I knew at that point the title needed to be more centrally focused. After another couple of drafts and having a cleaner version of the book, I started to focus on the main conflict more and more. That Liz, despite being a princess, was slated to be a sacrifice in a ceremony meant to save the Kingdom. It was because of a prophecy that she was chosen. Thus, The Dragon’s Prophecy, became the working title for my book. This one lasted for a much longer time, almost too long, as it nearly stayed the title of the book.

In fact, it wasn’t until I started the cover art development with my immensely talented cover artist, Asha Hossain, that it was changed for the final time. While working with her on the cover art, Asha prompted me to ask questions of my story that I hadn’t even asked myself yet. About the theme, the importance of certain symbols and customs in the world I created. I realized the title was completely wrong when I looked beyond the surface of my story to the heart of it. In the context of the world I created, ‘Songs’ are how you mourn the dead. When anyone dies in Aegis their loved ones left behind sing them into the halls of the gods. Autumn, as a time of rebirth and transition in nature, is also symbolic.

The final title Songs Of Autumn is about the lives of the characters and the transitions they’re going through over the course of the first novel. While being a lyrical title, which mirrors the lyrical tone of the writing, it’s also haunting in its symbolism and captures perfectly the identity of the story I wrote. I can’t wait to share this book and the entire series with the world.

AUTHOR Bio and Links: Lauren Sevier lives a simple life in small town Walker, Louisiana with her family and two mischievous dogs. She’s a proud firefighter wife and mother to her miracle son, born through IVF after an eight-year battle with infertility. She works full-time for a non-profit hospital in Cardiology caring for the elderly and low-income families all over the state of Louisiana in satellite and outreach clinics. Writing and being in the service of helping others are her two passions in life.

She started writing song lyrics and poems on the front porch swing of her family home nestled amidst a 200-year-old pecan tree orchard that was once part of a Civil War plantation. She’s inspired the most by Shakespeare, the Bronte sisters, Jane Austen, and JK Rowling. Her background in Theatre introduced her to classic British literature, playwrights, and poets from a very young age. This helped her to understand story concepts, dramatization, and character development the way Shakespeare once did, as an actor.

 Now her biggest inspiration for writing is her son who, like all children, learns by example. Lauren is determined to set a specific example for him; to live simply, work hard, and to never stop chasing her dreams. Because, one day, you just might catch them.

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 Excerpt: He hung with the rope around his neck, his tongue sticking out with a red-starved oxygen face. At the same time, he was smiling as though he was only having fun. Death was a reenactment that he had become accustomed to, to the point he thought it funny; a way of horrifying others and making them pay attention. He had a young mind—innocent and conditioned to get the attention of others. Little Charlie didn’t know whether he was dead or alive; far too young to understand. As far as he was concerned, tying a loop around his neck, jumping, and choking to death made him realize he felt no pain. He could do it over and over again.
Clarisse knew from her encounter in Hartley that Little Charlie was an attention seeker and someone who liked to cling onto you. That could explain how he had ended up in Old Tailem Town. Running away from evil might seem like a good idea at the time, but you could not hide.
 “Come over here, Little Charlie. There is nothing to be afraid of,” she said. He replied with a cheeky grin on his boyish face. His mousy brown hair thrown from side to side, he signaled with his right index finger, waving it left to right many times. “Nuh-uh,” he mimed, his way of saying no.
 AUTHOR Bio and Links: Janice Tremayne is an Amazon bestselling and award-winning ghost and supernatural writer. Janice is a finalist in the Readers' Favorite 2020 International Book Awards in Fiction-Supernatural.
 She is an emerging Australian author who lives with her family in Melbourne. Her recent publication, Haunting in Hartley, reached number one on the Amazon kindle ranking for Occult, Supernatural, and Ghosts and Haunted Houses categories, for hot new releases and bestsellers.
Janice is well-versed in her cultural superstitions and how they influence daily life and customs. She has developed a passion and style for writing ghost and supernatural novels for new adult readers.
The concept of writing the Haunting Clarisse series was spawned over a cup of coffee many years ago, and she has not looked back since. Her books contain heart-thumping, bone-chilling, and thought-provoking ghost and paranormal experiences that deliver a new twist to every tale.
