Book Review - Dwayne Johnson by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara

Dwayne Johnson (Little People, BIG DREAMS)

Dwayne Johnson by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

My Thoughts: This was my first book in the Little People, Big Dreams series and it mainly caught my eye because I recognized that name, "Dwayne Johnson" as being "The Rock" and I wanted to know more! It was quite enjoyable reading about his early years and what led up to his wrestling career and afterward, beautifully illustrated, and has a great more detailed timeline found at the end summarizing everything.

I found quite a few interesting tidbits I never knew and think this book puts forth a great message for children to never give up and to keep striving and moving forward even when life gets you down and always understand that just because things don't always turn out as you have planned doesn't mean something even better is just ahead!

Dwayne Johnson will always be "The People's Champion" and I'll always wonder "What The Rocks Been Cooking!"

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this advanced copy for my honest review.

This timely, rhyming picture book highlights the everyday heroes who make it possible for society to continue to function during this time of crisis – including diverse representations of mail carriers, teachers, grocery store workers, doctors, truck drivers, maintenance staff, and caretakers. The story ends with a reminder that when children wash their hands and follow pandemic guidelines, they themselves are heroes, too. Written from the perspective of a young child spending time indoors, the story focuses on the incredible individuals who continue to contribute their time, effort, and resources to ensure that life can continue to go on. With beautiful, hand-drawn illustrations offset with large-print text, this story is a must-read for all ages.

My Thoughts: Such a wonderful book written from a kids perspective explaining how everybody can be a hero in their own way or profession from a child to the postman truck drivers and so on. Loved the illustrations as well as the message!

Eliana Melmed, Author

Eliana is a senior at the University of Chicago studying Public Policy with a minor in Media, Arts, and Design. She's loved reading and writing since she can remember and has journaled nightly for almost ten years! She hopes that her book inspires children and adults alike to spend a little bit more time recognizing and thanking their heroes.

Title: WINSTON’S WET

Everybody's favorite Wombat is back, and he's desperate to cool down! Winston wants to play outside, but it's SO hot. Luckily, his mom comes up with a great idea: They can play in the sprinklers! Together they jump and laugh and play in the cool water under a hot summer sun, and then things get even better. There's a rainbow! Right there in the mist. But where did it come from?

With the help of his mom, Winston learns why rainbows appear when there's mist in the sun, and how it's just like friendship and love-something miraculous that you can feel and enjoy, even when you can't catch it in your hand....

My Thoughts: I read Winston Winks and it was so adorable and the pages are filled with cute illustrations! In this episode Winston is wanting to learn to wink but is having a hard go of it and mom has to explain how practice makes perfect! Perfect for any child especially one wanting to learn new things!

About Megan:

A lifelong lover of books, and a member of her local library board of trustees for over fifteen years, Megan Cline has been inspired to create this series of children’s stories by her own insatiably curious son, whose questions and wonderings about the world around him always prodded her to think about things that had never even occurred to her.

Megan currently lives in Iowa with her husband, son, Patsy the dog, and Humphrey the hamster.
