Excerpt:

The door opened, admitting Ellora, and he gestured to her to sit back. Absentmindedly,

he watched her prowl over to the sofa, sitting with grace and economy in her movements.

Running a hand through his hair, he listened to his client.

“I’m looking for an ancient religious artifact originating in Neolithic times. Athens

should be your first stop.”

There was an odd note, something he couldn’t put his finger on. Greece. He hadn’t

been there before. He glanced at Ellora who looked as though she were listening with

every fiber of her being.

“No problem. What is it?”

“A chalice, possibly Roman Catholic. It needs to be returned to its rightful owner. You

know the budget.” No budget. Spend what is needed.

“Understood. What information can you give me?” He nodded at Ellora and watched

as she pulled an iPad from her bag.

“It is made of metal and has engravings of three spirals and eagles on the outside with

a cross in the center of the bowl.

He knew better than to ask for any images, knowing Constantin didn’t put anything on

paper. All business was conducted over the phone, and then only very briefly.

“Do you know when it was last seen?”

“No. You know all I know. Keep in touch.”

A click preceded the dial tone.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Karen Lovell, better known by her pseudonym, Cait O’Sullivan, grew up in Ireland

to an Irish mother and an English father. Dividing her school holidays between idyllic

time on her Granny’s farm and the big cities in England culminated in her feeling as

though she had a foot in Ireland and another in England, often joking that she came

from the Irish Sea. Wanderlust in her blood sent her out to travel the world and then,

reluctant to give up on following her dreams, she started writing. After publishing

four books, the world of shamanism called to her and she spent three years studying

with her guides. This resulted in a rich vein of inspiration for her writing and she

combined her loves of traveling, shamanism and love itself into a brand new trilogy

—A Dance of Flames. She currently lives in the countryside in England with her

hubby, four daughters and one Irish setter and visits Ireland on a regular basis. But

maybe one day she’ll move back there.

Book Blast/Giveaway - Avocado Toast by Nancy Fraser

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Nancy Fraser will be awarding a $20 Amazon or B/N GC to a randomly drawn winner via rafflecopter during the tour. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

The last place Andrew (Drew) Morgan wants to be is back on the family avocado farm in Plentiful. If he had his way, he’d still be active military and deployed someplace far, far away. Unfortunately, he rarely gets what he wants. And, being back in the orchard is just the latest in a long list of disappointments.

Single mother, Chloe Taylor has relocated from Fresno to the rural area of Plentiful, California to build her marketing business beginning with the local agriculture co-op. It’s her job to convince the local farms to invest in a major overhaul of the co-op’s publicity campaign. A mixture of modern operations, and older, family-owned farms, only adds to her frustration.

At the moment, her biggest challenge is bringing the owner of Plenty Good Farms in line with the others. The fact that the old curmudgeon of an owner, Samuel Morgan, has brought his nephew in to run things gives her hope. Surely, the younger Morgan will be more amenable to her progressive ideas.

When Chloe first presents her plan the Morgan men, it’s Drew who throws a monkey wrench into his uncle’s agreement to sign the necessary contract. What she doesn’t realize is that Drew’s reluctance has more to do with his uncle’s health issues, and the possibility that he won’t be able to talk the man who raised him into retiring.

When Drew is forced by the military medical team into choosing between a desk job or retirement, he shares his frustrations with Chloe and she helps him find a new purpose outside of being a full-time farmer. It also helps that their attraction is growing. Drew has definitely fallen for the independent woman, and her adorable daughter.

Will Chloe’s faith and determination help her lead Drew through his difficult decisions and bring them what they both need... a love that transcends their everyday challenges.

Read an Excerpt

Chloe Taylor sorted through the last few co-op contracts, happy to see three of the five holdouts had finally signed on the dotted line. If they were going to make this work—rebrand and revitalize an area that was far off the recognition map—everyone had to come on board.

Even Sam Morgan.

The grumpy relic was her staunchest naysayer, a man badly in need of being dragged by his thumbs into the modern world of marketing.

She doubted Mr. Morgan even owned a computer, much less had internet out at that farm of his. If he could only see what she’d created. Appreciate the hard work she’d put into revitalizing the entire county, and especially the area known as Plentiful, then maybe he’d fall in line with the others.

Rumor around town was that his health was failing. Madelyn Pickard, bookkeeper for the co-op, had mentioned Sam’s nephew was coming back to Plentiful to help him out with the spring harvest.

Perhaps the younger Morgan would be more amenable to her sales pitch. Maybe he’d hold more sway with his uncle than—what had Sam called her—a prissy city girl with high falutin ideas.

Who even talked like that anymore? Obviously, a man still stuck in the early to mid-twentieth century.

“Mom! Where’s my backpack?”

Chloe turned away from her computer and met the frantic gaze of her eight-year-old daughter, Jessi. “Last time I saw it, the straps were draped over the arm of the chair in the family room.”

“I just looked,” Jessi assured her. “It’s not there.”

Chloe pushed herself to her feet intent on helping with the search. “I thought you’d finished your homework already.”

“I did. But I left a granola bar and half a cheese sandwich in there, and I don’t want it to get all gross.”

Navigating an immediate U-turn, Chloe made her way to the corner of the spare bedroom. Jessi followed closely on her heels.

“There’s your culprit.”

“Boomer, no!” Jessi screeched. “Not my new backpack.”

Strips of red corduroy material lay spread out on Boomer’s dog bed. The only remaining sign of Jessi’ cheese sandwich was the plastic baggy. The wrapper from the granola bar was torn to pieces with no more than a few crumbs left clinging to the shiny silver paper.

“That’s the third one this school year,” Chloe pointed out. “You’ve really got to be more careful what you leave in your bag, and where you hang it up when it’s not in use.”

“I’m sorry, mom. I’ll use my birthday money to buy a new one.”

“How about we split the cost?”

Eagerly, Jessi accepted. “That would be great. Thanks, mom.”

“Go set out your clothes for church in the morning. Then, take your bath and get into your pajamas. We’ll watch a movie before you go to bed.”

“Can we have popcorn?”

“We’ll see. Now scoot while I clean up this mess and pack away my laptop.”

Once she’s discarded the remnants of Boomer’s thievery, Chloe returned to her desk in the cramped den and gathered up the signed contracts, adding them to the files for the Plentiful Fresh Food Cooperative. The two unsigned contracts were placed in her briefcase for her scheduled Monday meetings.

Her hard work on the co-op’s website had finally turned Abel Marks around and she expected he’d sign at their nine o’clock appointment.

Then, with everyone else in place, she’d make yet another appeal to Sam Morgan. Surely a man who’d been in business for what seemed like forever wouldn’t want to be left out in the cold to fend for himself when everyone else was benefiting from her aggressive campaign. Would he?

Book Review - The New Neighbor by Carter Wilson

The New Neighbor

The New Neighbor by Carter Wilson
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Synopsis: Aidan Marlowe is the superstitious type—he's been playing the same lottery numbers for fifteen years, never hitting the jackpot. Until now. On the day of his wife's funeral.

Aidan struggles to cope with these two sudden extremes: instant wealth beyond his imagination, and the loss of the only woman he's ever loved, the mother of his twin children. But the money gives him and his kids options they didn't have before. They can leave everything behind. They can start a new life in a new town. So they do.

But a huge new house and all the money in the world can't replace what they've lost, and it's not long before Aidan realizes he's merely trading old demons for new ones. Because someone is watching him and his family very closely. Someone who knows exactly who they are, where they've come from, and what they're trying to hide. Someone who will stop at nothing to get what they want...

My Thoughts: The New Neighbor had me flipping pages right away. I think I read it in almost two sittings! Flew thru it, it was so good! I can't even begin to imagine anybody having the kind of luck this poor family was having what with losing a family member and winning the lottery at the same time! Then trying to start fresh and being terrorized? This was just an awesome fast paced story that other than a few minor things I enjoyed a lot and can't wait to grab another book from Carter Wilson!

This is my first book from him so I may be missing something but the reason I gave it only four stars is I feel like a few things weren't tied up at the end but it could be that Mr Wilson has an ongoing "theme" thru a couple of his stories and just gives snippets of a back story in each one? I dunno I just felt a tiny something missing as well as a few small things that happened in the story that just gave me pause but to mention them would take away the experience of the story.

I must say I was kinda dumb founded and had no clue "who dunnit" nor any guesses even until about middle ways because up until then it appeared to me that everybody was a suspect! I was floored when I got to the bottom of it.

Book Review - Don't Stand So Close To Me by Eric Walters

Don't Stand So Close to Me

Don't Stand So Close to Me by Eric Walters
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Synopsis:  Thirteen-year-old Quinn and her friends can't believe their luck when spring break is extended an extra two weeks—even if it's because of some virus. But when the impact of the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic becomes apparent, everyone, not just the students, has to learn to adjust to their new reality. Quinn’s father is an ER doctor and has to self-isolate to protect his family from the virus. Isaac’s mother is the chief of police and now has to enforce new physical-distancing bylaws.

My Thoughts: This is an excellent fictional story to help children understand what went on/still going on when covid-19 broke out. It breaks things down with simple examples to help better understand why and how all the changes came about.

All Quinn and her school friends were worried about was getting ready for an upcoming school dance. This story tells how quickly their life changed and the struggles that came along with it.

It was interesting to read. Brought back so many of my own memories and thoughts of wondering if things will ever be the same again.

Blurb Blitz/Giveaway - America's Hero by Regan Taylor

America's Hero

by Regan Taylor

GENRE:   Paranormal

After her F/A-18 crashes Marine Corps Major Cassie Winter embarks on a daring rescue saving both her life and that of her RIO. In the aftermath she returns to her ship and hottie actor, Austin Quinn learns of her story. Quinn is determined to tell Cassie's story with a slight twist -- he will be the hero instead of Cassie. As they move forward to their own time and beyond the couple finds more than just adventure. He plays America's Hero, but she IS America's Hero.

Excerpt:

Over the whop-whop of the rotors, the CH-46 rescue helicopter reported in to the aircraft carrier George Washington’s air controller. “Calvary 1 approaching LZ.”

“Copy your traffic, Calvary 1,” the controller responded, calm and in control. The voice of assurance coming over the air was heard clearly as the CH-46 approached what was designated as the landing zone, a place that was as safe as could be—given the circumstances.

Pilot Dawg Jameson scanned the area where the F/A-18 Hornet they were searching for had been downed two days earlier. If its pilot and weapons systems officer were alive, at a minimum, they’d be badly injured. He spotted a moving cloud of dust and identified three battered trucks, loaded with men who appeared to be carrying guns. The cloud moved toward the barely visible, scattered debris. No doubt they were also headed for the crash site. Most definitely not to effect a rescue but to take prisoners—if the crew were still alive.

“Calvary 1, Base, looks like company en route, counting three trucks filled with tangos. Request fast mover cover ASAP,” Dawg radioed in.

“Base copies, fast movers en route.”

“You see anything?” Dawg asked his co-pilot and crew.

“Nothing yet, Captain,” the co-pilot’s voice crackled over the headset.

Hovering over the crash site of the downed F/A-18 the crew of the CH-46 scanned the area. Major Cass Winter, aka, Snow White, had been shot down with Weapons System Officer Keith McDonald two days before and all the wingman could provide was a general location with two chutes deployed.

One of the embedded reporters on a passing helicopter sent out to check for survivors reported seeing what appeared to be one of the jet’s external tanks. Now, with tangos approaching from the east, the 46 either had to find the crewmen in the next few minutes or get out of Dodge fast. The thwuck of two COBRA attack helicopters initially sent as cover could be heard approaching, buying the rescue crew a few more precious minutes.

“Where the hell are those fast movers?” Jameson yelled as he set down the 46.

“There! I see something in that clump of whatever the heck that stuff is over there!” Lance Corporal Adamson called out.
