Blog Tour/Giveaway - A Year in Her Life by Alice Benson
Book Tour/Giveaway - Lost and Found by Maggie Clare
Lost and Found by Maggie Clare
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Romantic Suspense
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB: Dr. Lissa Morgan has had a crush on her best friend’s older brother since they were kids, but handsome, brooding Cam Taylor has never given her a second glance. When Cam unexpectedly shows up on Lissa’s doorstep bleeding and bruised, his personal life in shambles, things between them take a steamy turn. After an incredible weekend with the sweet, sexy doctor, Cam realizes what he’s been missing. But he’s run from intimacy his whole life, sure he doesn’t deserve a woman like Lissa. He’s doing her a favor by walking away – or so he tells himself. Frustrated and hurt by Cam’s distance, Lissa must nonetheless rely on his private security firm when an annoying admirer becomes a threat. The more time Cam spends with Lissa, the faster his defenses crumble. When the disturbed stalker finally makes his move, Cam will do whatever it takes to save the woman who’s slowly healing his wounded soul. Lost and Found is the third book in the Tactical Solutions International series but can be read as a stand-alone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt: Cam woke with a splitting headache and no idea where he was. For a few seconds, before his foggy brain cleared, he simply stared at the white ceiling overhead. He ran a hand over the soft blanket covering him, and turned his head carefully to the side. A glass of orange juice, a bottle of pills, and a note sat on a coffee table. His cell phone, keys, and wallet were in a neat pile next to the glass. Snapshots of memory flashed back into his head, coming in reverse order, like a videotape rewinding. Liss suturing his head. Her friend bringing supplies. Cam sitting outside her door, getting drunk while he waited for her to come home. He reached for the note, licking his dry lips and squinting past the pounding in his head. Things you may do: 1. Drink this juice and take some Tylenol. 2. Take off your bloody clothes and leave them in the basket. 3. Shower – the sutures won’t dissolve. 4. Move into my room for more sleep. Things you may not do: 1. Leave – doctor’s orders. He grinned, hearing Lissa’s voice in his head as he read her instructions. His smile faded when he remembered what had driven him to her doorstep in the first place. He couldn’t think about that right now. He considered sneaking out before Liss returned from wherever she’d gone off to, but he discarded the idea pretty quickly. He needed the pills, the shower, and more sleep.
From The Author:
Thoughts on Vulnerability, Writing Things, and Covid
When I first started writing, and had to let other people read my stories, I was nervous. What if I really had no talent at all? Was I kidding myself? Did I have the resilience and mental fortitude to manage the criticism and constant rejection that comes with the deal? Would I run out of ideas?
Six years later, and I have just released the third book in this romantic suspense series, my science fiction trilogy has won numerous awards, I manage a writer’s blog for a publishing house, I’m invited to speak on panels, podcasts, and webinars, and I’m drafting my seventh novel. Progress. Validation. Proof that maybe I have the chops for this. And yet… that vulnerable feeling is never far away.
During this Covid pandemic, many of us feel as vulnerable as we ever have in our lives. We might get sick. Someone we love might get sick. We might not have a job to go back to. There are so many things happening over which we have very little control - and they’re scary things. In order to weather this storm, we have to dig deep. We have to find a way to swim in the discomfort without drowning in it.
I’ve already had to forge a new relationship with my feelings of vulnerability over the last several years, and they are helping me cope with this new world reality. I recognize now that vulnerability is not weakness. I may feel exposed, but I do what I have to do anyway. I may feel afraid, but I put one foot in front of the other and move forward. I may have a day when I’m so mentally and physically exhausted that I throw in the towel, but the next day I try again. I’ve come to recognize that vulnerability and courage are two sides of the same coin.
We don’t have to pretend to feel good when we don’t. It’s okay to be afraid. It’s okay to feel vulnerable. We just have to keep showing up.
“Vulnerability is not winning or losing; it’s having the courage to show up and be seen when we have no control over the outcome. Vulnerability is not weakness; it’s our greatest measure of courage.” - Brene Brown
Asbury’s fearless foursome is back!
Is their favorite hangout to blame for recent food poisonings? Or is there something more sinister at work?
After an unprecedented first year of high school, the gang is ready for a relaxing summer vacation, although in Asbury, that may be easier said than done. This summer, the Food Network is running a summer special highlighting local hot spots, Carly, Maddie, Pilot and Cornelious are psyched to have the world’s best restaurant featured—their very own Brady’s! In fact, Maddie can almost forget that her arch-nemesis, Alexis Johnson, will also be on TV for winning the logo design for Caulfield’s Candies… almost.
However, after patrons start falling ill, shoobies and locals alike point the finger at Brady’s and rumors of food poisoning. When Brady’s threatens to close its doors, Pilot realizes his mother’s job is in jeopardy, as well as his future in Asbury. With the aid of Cornelious’ wealthy cousin Dane, who spends every summer with the quartet, the gang is once again thrust into an investigation. Unfortunately, they find themselves thwarted by both the local police (who believe their recent success was due to luck, rather than skill), and Cornelious’ father, who has decided to run for Mayor of Asbury and cautions his son on the need to maintain a spotless public image.
With a new pancake house on the boardwalk, Mainlanders invading their beaches, and the Pitbulls sneaking around and terrorizing shoobies (as usual), there’s no shortage of suspects. But can they solve the case before the summer, and Brady’s, are finished?
About Kelly Brady Channick
For as long as she could remember, Kelly Brady Channick loved making up stories, and leaving her listeners/readers on the edge of their seats.
Perhaps that’s why she always managed to talk herself out of trouble...
After graduating from NJ’s own Ocean City High School, Kelly accepted a basketball scholarship to Holy Family University, in Philadelphia. As a lifelong athlete, Kelly understands the importance of teamwork and overcoming adversity, something she hopes translates into her books.
Before writing page-turners, she taught first, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade — like a dessert menu, she simply had to test them all out. But her favorite job is the one she’s now doing full time: writing. Kelly loves to craft whodunit mysteries, leading readers through various twists and turns filled with red-herrings, hidden clues, and more peculiar characters than a reality show.
Kelly lives in South Jersey with her handsome husband, energetic baby boy, two cookie-stealing dogs, and an awfully smart cat.
Blurb Blitz/Giveaway - Angel Within by C.B. Barlow
Angel Within by C. B. Barlow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ GENRE: YA Urban Fantasy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB: Sixteen-year old Rachel has an over protective but loving mother and a boring but safe life. All this changes in a blink of an eye. Rachel is now an orphan and learning she is more than human. She is thrust into a new world of friends, family and love along with fears, foes and evil. Evil that seeks to destroy her and all she holds dear.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Excerpt: They say your whole life flashes before your eyes right before you die. Well for me, it didn’t, it was only the last couple of months. That might be, because that was when my whole world changed. In those months, I had lost a loved one, been attacked, run for my life, seen suffering, and fought for revenge. But it hadn’t all been bad. I had learned the truth about myself, made new friends, strengthened old friendships, become part of a family, and fallen in love. My vision was getting blurry, but I could still see Isaac standing over me, beautiful, angelic Isaac. If he was the last thing I saw on this Earth before I died, I would consider myself lucky. Although I wish…Suddenly there was a bright light, so blinding that I closed my eyes. This must be the infamous white light everybody sees before they die. The pain was getting worse. I didn’t want to die. I’m only sixteen years old. None of this should have happened. I should have been at home with Mom watching TV, hanging out with friends, or going to a football game. It’s kind of funny, a couple months ago that was the only thing that mattered. Going to a football game.
AUTHOR Bio and Links: Cindy has lived most of her life in Erie, Pennsylvania, just a stone’s throw away from where her main character lives. She traded in the bitter cold winters of Erie for the sizzling hot summers when she moved to Phoenix, Arizona. She is an avid reader of all genres of books and has a passion for anything angel related. When she is not working full time as a Registered Nurse, she enjoys writing. Recently Cindy decided to mash up her enjoyment and her passion into a book. She hopes her readers will have as much fun reading this book as much as she did writing it.
Book Review - Little Disasters by Sarah Vaughan
Little Disasters by Sarah Vaughan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Synopsis: You think you know her…but look a little closer.
She
is a stay-at-home mother-of-three with boundless reserves of patience,
energy, and love. After being friends for a decade, this is how Liz sees
Jess.
Then one moment changes everything.
Dark
thoughts and carefully guarded secrets surface—and Liz is left
questioning everything she thought she knew about her friend, and about
herself. The truth can’t come soon enough.
My Thoughts: The author has done a wonderful job of showing what it's like feeling overwhelmed as a parent as well as identifying the other characters feelings about what has happened.
The beginning grabs you and the pacing stands strong but about midway I realized for some reason I mistakenly went into this thinking it was a medical thriller but it turns out more of a domestic drama type story but it was still an enjoyable read and brings attention to sensitive subject matter.
I was provided a copy in exchange for my honest review!
