Synopsis: Addie left some painful memories behind in the big city, and now
she's moved to a small
in New England founded by her ancestors back in colonial times—and
living in spacious Greyborne Manor, on a hilltop overlooking the harbor.
Best of all, her aunt also left her countless first editions and other
treasures—providing an inventory to start her own store.
But
there's trouble from day one, and not just from the grumpy woman who
runs the bakery next door. A car nearly runs Addie down. Someone steals a
copy of Alice in Wonderland. Then, Addie's friend Serena, who
owns a nearby tea shop, is arrested—for killing another local merchant.
The police seem pretty sure they've got the story in hand, but Addie's
not going to let them close the book on this case without a fight . .
Review: Addie the main character has lost her fiance, her father, and an aunt she never knew about all in a few short months and then just up and moves to a place she's never been and opens a bookstore with antique books her aunt left behind for her. She then proceeds to immediately have love/hate relationships with the folks in this new town and more bodies start piling up around her.
I did like Murder by the Book because of the bookstore and all. I'm a sucker for anything even mentioning a bookstore or library because those are places I always feel so at home in plus I adored the cover of the book! I wanted Murder by the Book to be a great cozy mystery but it had so much going on at once and so quickly. The relationships and opinions were formed way to soon and I just felt like it was to much for a first book in a series to handle.
